Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Account information: Email address and display name when you create an account.
  • Voice recordings: Audio recordings you capture through the app (up to 30-60 seconds each).
  • Location data: Geographic coordinates at the time of each voice recording, used to tag memories to places.

Information generated automatically:

  • Transcriptions: Text transcriptions of your voice recordings, generated by our AI processing pipeline.
  • AI-generated insights: Mood analysis, activity detection, summaries, and other contextual information derived from your recordings.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for troubleshooting and compatibility.
  • Usage data: App interaction patterns (e.g., feature usage, session duration) to improve the Service.

How We Use Your Information

  • Core functionality: To record, transcribe, analyze, and resurface your voice memories based on location.
  • AI processing: To generate transcriptions, mood analysis, summaries, and spoken recaps of your entries.
  • Location services: To tag memories to places and trigger memory resurfacing when you revisit locations.
  • Personalization: To provide weekly insights, mood patterns, and personalized memory feeds.
  • Service improvement: To analyze aggregate, anonymized usage patterns and improve the app experience.
  • Communications: To send you important service updates and, with your consent, product announcements.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to power Sela:

  • Supabase: Database hosting, authentication, and file storage.
  • Deepgram: Voice-to-text transcription of your recordings.
  • Anthropic (Claude): AI analysis of transcribed text for mood detection, summarization, and insights.
  • ElevenLabs: Text-to-speech generation for spoken memory recaps.

These providers process your data only as necessary to provide their services and are bound by their own privacy policies and our data processing agreements.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit. We implement row-level security policies ensuring that only you can access your own data.

Voice recordings are stored in secure cloud storage buckets. All API communications use HTTPS encryption.

While we implement commercially reasonable security measures, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual entries at any time within the app. If you delete your account, we will delete all associated data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Export your data in a portable format (JSON/CSV).
  • Withdraw consent for optional data processing.
